Politiek Café in Chisinau, Capital of Moldova
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 the second Politiek Café has been organized in Chisinau together with the youth organization of AMN, with guest speaker Jeannette Baljeu, vice president of the ELDR (European Liberal and Democratic Reform Party.
Jeannette stated: “It is a great privilege for me to be here in Moldova. As vice-president of ELDR, which consists of all European liberal parties, I am here to give support to AMN for the coming elections. The European Liberal family, time and again, has been at the forefront of promoting democracy across Europe. We made clear in various resolutions that reforms in Moldova will be successful only when they are carried out with respect for the rule of laws and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of speech and access for all parties to all media. European integration of Moldova only happens if and when its government
strictly adheres to the rules of a liberal democracy. That condition is not met with this communist government.
ELDR supports all liberal parties in their call for a free and fair election campaign, validity of the list of voters, access to the media and transparency in the counting process. ELDR is concerned that the current government is not doing anything to prevent fraud. ELDR requests for action and transparency of this government.
ELDR, during their congress last November, acknowledged the desire of the Moldovan citizens to have a democratic state and join the EU. However, this communist government had no official strategy and is not transparent in preparing the country to achieve this goal. As long as Moldova will be under a communist regime the European integration will be far away. ELDR of course supports our full member AMN in their goal to finda real solution and
desire to prepare the country for accession. This can only be done when the cooperation agreement, the action plan and the accession criteria are met. We, as European liberals support all liberal parties in their fight for a liberal democracy. Mr. Serafim Urechean and his team are leading by example showing the right way for the future of the country. We are very confident that they will have a good election, we are waiting for their good results.
I ask all people of Moldova to make use of their right to vote. And if you vote, why not liberal?”.
Thursday, July 23rd 2009 during a press conference of the president of AMN, Serafim Urechean and Jeannette Baljeu, vice president of ELDR, Mr. Urechean made a speech with, among other, the following quotes on the preparations on fraud for the elections of July 29th 2009 in Moldova.
“ We’re talking about a few hundred thousand ballots printed in abroad. Also the technology and implementation procedure of the forgery have been discovered
1.1 The ballots will be given to the polling stations with over 500 voters
registered.
1.2 The ballots will be given to PCRM members within the electoral
commissions of the polling stations.
1.3 On the respective ballots the stamp “voted PCRM” already exists,
although invisible.
1.4 If the citizen stamps “voted AMN” on one of these ballots, the “voted
AMN” stamp will disappear within 1-2 hours.
1.5 Also in 1-2 hours the “voted PCRM” stamp will appear on the ballot.
1.6 The polling stations will be given special ink which dissolves at
light. Also at light, the special “voted PCRM” ink appears.
We recommend:
a) All ballots to be verified with UV rays money controlling machines.
b) To request in the eve of the elections day the changing of the
special ink.
2. All police officers in the country have been told by the Ministry of
Interior that if in their rayon/county PCRM will not win the elections they
will be discharged.
3. […]10.000 IDs have been made, which will be handed out to the youth
organization of PCRM as well as to some mobile groups that will vote in more
than one location.
4. The majority of employees of the so called MIRAO have been sent to their
native villages to ensure the victory of the communists, or else they will
be released from their functions”.
